EPFO is a government-backed organization that provides an online facility for it’s pf account holders to change UAN password in an Unified Member Portal without a mobile number or with a registered mobile number.

In this post, we will mainly focus on how to change the UAN password without a mobile number and also see how to change a UAN password with a registered mobile number.

What is the condition to change the UAN password without a mobile number/lost mobile?

If your old mobile number is lost and you want to change the UAN password with the new mobile number, then the new mobile number has to be linked with your aadhaar number before changing the UAN password. (Because you have to mention you’re new mobile number linked with the aadhaar before changing the UAN password).

You should have a UAN number. (If it’s not activated click here)

Reset UAN Password without a mobile number/lost mobile number Online

Here is the step-by-step procedure to change the UAN password without a mobile number.

Step 1: First, visit the UAN Member Portal of the EPFO website and click on Forgot Password.

Step 2: Enter UAN, Captcha and click on Submit button.

Step 3: Now the new window will open with the following message “Do you wish to send OTP on the above mobile number?”. Click on the No button. (since you don’t have a mobile number or had lost a mobile number)

Step 4: Enter your Name, Date of Birth (DD/MM/Yand YYY), and Gender and click on Verify button

Step 5: Now, your Enter your Captcha and Aadhaar Number and click on Verify button.

Step 6: your Enter your Aadhaar Linked New Mobile Number and click on the Get OTP button.

Note: Here you have to enter either the same old registered number or else a new mobile number linked with your aadhaar number (aadhaar is mandatory here, no pan card option is available).

Step 7: Now, Enter the Captcha and the 4 digits OTP received on the aadhaar-linked mobile number. After that click on Verify button.

Step 8: After the OTP verification, Enter a new password and confirm the new password, then click on Submit button. The new UAN Password is set for your next UAN Member Portal login.

Step 9: You will receive a confirmation message as the “Password changed successfully, click here to login“

Note: You will also receive an SMS on your aadhaar linked mobile number as “Dear Member, Password for your UAN 10XXXXXXXX98 has been changed successfully. If not done, then change the password immediately”.

Reset UAN Password with a registered mobile number in the Online

Here is the step-by-step procedure to change the UAN password with a mobile number.

Step 1: First, visit the UAN Member Portal of the EPFO website and click on Forgot Password.

Step 3: Now the new window will open with the following message “Do you wish to send OTP on the above mobile number?”. Click on the Yes button. (since you have an aadhaar linked mobile number)

Step 4: Enter the 4 digits of OTP with OTP id sent successfully to your aadhaar linked mobile number. Later click on Verify button.

Step 5: After the OTP verification, Enter a new password and confirm the new password, then click on Submit button. The new UAN Password is set for your next UAN Member Portal login.

Why UAN is linked with an aadhaar registered mobile number

To avail of various online services in a Unified Member Portal.
OTP is sent to your mobile number to change the password in case you forgot the UAN password.

How to Activate or Register UAN Number

Whenever you join the company with pf benefits. The employer is the one who activates your UAN and registers your mobile number in their employer pf portal

If the employer didn’t register your UAN. No worries. You can register your UAN number by yourself on the employee’s unified member portal

Here are some below steps to register your UAN number. Let’s get started.

Step 1: Visit the EPFO Unified Member Portal and click on Activate UAN.

Step 2: Enter UAN, Name, Date of Birth, Mobile No, Email Id, and Captcha and click on Get Authorization Pin.

Step 3: Check your basic details filled, tick the check box to Agree and Enter the OTP (authorization pin) received on your mobile number. Finally, click on “Validate OTP and Activate” UAN.

Step 4: The password will be sent to your mobile number mentioned while filling in the basic details.

In this way, UAN and your mobile number got registered. Now you can sign in to your UAN Member Portal by entering the UAN (activated), password (received through SMS) and Captcha.

How to Update Password in UAN Portal

If you’re seeing that after logging to UAN portal, you have been taken to update password window that means you need to change your UAN password in order to use EPF services.

So Let’s get started to update our UAN password.

Step 1: Enter your old password, and new password, and confirm new password. Now tick on the check box and click on Get Aadhaar OTP button.

Step 2: You will receive confirmation message whether to change your password or not. Click on Yes and proceed.

Step 3: Now you will receive 6 digit OTP number to your aadhaar linked mobilenumber. Enhter the OTP number and click on change password.

That’s it, now you have successfully changed your password. Next time you can login the UAN portal with the new password.

FAQs related to Forgot UAN Password

Q1. Can I select the Pan card option instead of aadhaar while changing the password in case of the mobile number is lost?

A. No. Earlier you had the option of either selecting Pan or Aadhaar. But now filling in aadhaar details is mandatory.

Q2. If my pan or aadhaar is not linked to UAN, Can I change my password online?

A. No. In that case, you have to raise a complaint by using the grievance pf portal. Your regional EPFO officials will help you to resolve your issue.
